Lasting Powers of Attorney
As a solicitor in our private client department I am becoming involved in an increasing number of Court of Protection cases. These cases generally arise when individuals who have failed to make a Lasting Power of Attorney lose mental capacity and need assistance with their finances and paperwork. The only way in which someone can then help the individual who has lost capacity is to apply to the Court of Protection for a deputyship order.
The cost of this application, which is fixed by the Court, is high and the takes around 6 months – this all being at a time when someone really needs to step in and deal with the paperwork. All of this can be avoided by people signing a Lasting Power of Attorney at a time when they have sufficient mental capacity to do so. The costs involved are far cheaper and the application process to use the Lasting Power of Attorney takes much less time.
To assist people in planning for the future we are offering you, family members or friends the opportunity to make a Lasting Power of Attorney at a special rate of £195 plus VAT (excludes any registration costs) provided the Lasting Power of Attorney is signed by the close of business on Friday 26 August 2011.
