Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics
The Office for National Statistics report released 30 January 2013 shows that the number of UK residents living in a married household has declined 6% in ten years.
The report also shows:
- Cohabiting couples increase by 2%
- Lone parent households increase by 1%
- The percentage of usual residents in households living in one person households in 2011 was 13 per cent (7.1 million), the same percentage as in 2001 (13 percent, 6.5 million).
- The percentage of usual residents in households who were part of a one family married couple household2 decreased by six percentage points from 50 per cent (25.3 million) in 2001 to 44 per cent (24.4 million) in 2011.
- The percentage of usual residents in households who were part of a one family cohabiting couple household2 increased by two percentage points from ten per cent (4.9 million) in 2001 to 12 per cent (6.5 million) in 2011.
- The percentage of usual residents in households who were part of a one family lone parent household2 increased by one percentage point from 11 per cent (5.4 million) in 2001 to 12 per cent (6.5 million) in 2011.
- Less than half of one per cent (0.1 per cent, 70,000) of usual residents in households reported living in a one family civil partnership household
