Sunday 24 February and Saturday 18 May were both proud days for me personally as I watched Bradford City Football Club step out onto the Wembley turf. It was a fantastic achievement getting to both the Capital One cup final by beating some outstanding opposition and the play off final.

Despite the cup final defeat, Phil Parkinson, the players, backroom staff & supporters dug deep and ultimately exceeded expectations in both competitions. Together they created an environment to allow the players to better themselves, which has given the whole city a lift.

Goals can be achieved when the right environment is created with the right support. There is no better example than at our charity One In A Million.

Like a 4th tier football team getting to a cup final and beating the odds, One In A Million supports over 750 children & young people per week, mainly from disadvantaged areas of Bradford, through our 28 high quality sports, arts & enterprise programmes in five locations across the City.

Our goal is to help young people beat the odds and break the cycle of shocking statistics that hover over their lives such as; broken families, crime, unemployment, prison, drug & alcohol abuse. We are creating an environment which allows young people to flourish, pursue goals and most importantly better themselves. Please have a look at our website and see the positive steps that are being taken to help the next generation in Bradford.

In addition to the sport, art and enterprise programmes we have also created a Free School at Valley Parade which from September 2013 will open its doors to the first intake of students. As you would expect, this gives us even more opportunity to use the facilities for the other benefit of all the children and young people on our community programmes.

Just as our football club has passionate supporters behind them, One In A Million passionately supports Bradford’s local young people. Please join our team in supporting them and together we can make a lasting change to our community.
