Best Law firm in Yorkshire…for Touch Rugby
Last night saw team @LawBlacks take part in the annual Wooden Spoon touch rugby tournament, with the heightened excitement this year of playing on the hallowed turf of Headingley stadium. With the rugby union World Cup coming to the city of Leeds later this year and the following fixtures at Elland Road; Italy vs Canada and Scotland vs USA, who showed their international class last night?
Let’s start with Blacks Circle of strength, the ladies:
Alex Hall – a returning veteran from last year’s tournament, vastly improved and no chance of beating her one on one – unbeatable in defence.
Aimee Hutchinson – on debut for team blacks and certainly stuck her hand up to become a regular in the team. Did not stop running all night and even played for other teams in need – never one to miss a referral opportunity.
Sarah Tallant – certainly lived up to her name last night; another debutant that showed real quality throughout the evening.
Emma Wilson – without doubt the find of the tournament and the Blacks’ MVP. So impressive were her carries from dummy half in attack and cover tackles in defence, she was handpicked to represent the RFL in the final. Thoroughly deserved her winners medal.
And the lads:
Nick Dyson – burst onto the scene last season with his searing pace. Did his best work down the flanks in open space this year. Nothing but confrontational when he worked himself into the midfield; wasn’t there to make friends!
Francis Morton – edged James Farad for the Colman’s award (keen as mustard) did not stop running all night and showed a real turn of pace.
James Farad – came with a lot of Twitter hype following his recent exploits with Iran. The Iranian international didn’t disappoint. Played every minute, covered every blade of grass.
Luke Pickering – the ‘Cas Express’ pulled the strings all night dragging defenders out of the line and creating holes all over the pitch for his teammates to exploit. Secret Weapon – the “show ‘n’ go”.
Andy Boyde – in the words of Andrew Flintoff; “not bad for a fat lad…”
Team Blacks left nearly every team in their wake in the group stages and thoroughly deserved their spot in the knockout stages. Robbed in the semis in extra time, until next year…!
