The new guidance provides greater clarity on a number of issues that have been troubling employers these last two weeks, such as who is eligible to be furloughed, what furloughed employees can and cannot do, whether directors can be furloughed and what happens to employees who are on maternity leave, adoption leave, paternity leave or shared parental leave.
It is anticipated that the online portal employers will need to use to reclaim wages of furloughed staff will not be available until the end of April 2020.
